Wine description

Pendón de la Aguilera owes its name to the Cruz del Pendón, a mound surrounded by vineyards and pine groves in front of the viewpoint of the  winery. A Pendón was a flag or banner that, located in its lances distinguished and identified the feudal lords and their militias during the Middle Age (XII century). During the Low Middle Age (S XIII to XV) the King granted Pendones to the towns and cities being the pride and symbol of the place.

Dominio de Cair is located at the foot of the cross of El Pendón de la Aguilera, a mound located in the highest area of the town that houses the winery and where the badge was visible. This wine that receives its name has become the standard, on the occasion of pride, having as faithful allies every strain from which this wine is born.

Coming from Tempranillo vines with more than 80 years of age, its elaboration is located in the towns of La Aguilera and Quintana del Pidio.

Plots of sandy and clay loam soils at 830 meters of average altitude and very low yields, between 1,000 and 1,500 kilos of grapes per hectare. A rigorous selection of bunches in the winery and the latest generation oenological treatments (fermentation in small wooden vats, aged for 17 months in double French new barrels) joined the work in the vineyard, with a rational and respectful viticulture towards the middle, to light one of the great red wines of the modern Ribera del Duero.

Notas de cata y Maridaje

  • Colour Very dark cherry with violet hues around the rim. Very good depth of colour.
  • Aromas Intense, with a good balance between fruit and wood, with touches of fine wood, leather and spice chocolate. Compoted black fruits and spices: vanilla, cloves and liquorice. Pleasant dairy nuances also appear.
  • Palate Ample, complex and powerful, with a good balance. Roasted and spicy tones also appear, well assembled with the ripe fruit. Silky smooth mouth feel with sweet tannins and a very long, lingering finish.
  • Food pairing This wine pairs well with roasted and suckling lamb, meaty stews or ripe cheeses.
