Wine description

Ostatu Crianza is a red wine from the D.O. Rioja elaborated by Bodegas Ostatu. This winery is located in Samaniego, municipality of southern Alava (Rioja Alavesa).

Ostatu crianza is made with Tempranillo (90%) and Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha (10%) grapes. The grapes come from old vineyards between 20 and 50 years old, located in the terms of Samaniego, Leza and Laguardia, at an altitude of 580 m above sea level. The vineyards are planted in clayey-calcareous and gravelly soils.

Ostatu Crianza grapes ripen under a Mediterranean climate of Atlantic influence, cold winters and some frosts and very hot summers.

The elaboration of Ostatu Crianza began with a manual harvest and a subsequent transport of the grapes in 15kg boxes during the first week of October.

Once in the cellar, a cold maceration and a fermentation at a controlled temperature of 26ºC for 15 days are carried out. Then a malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and a aging in French oak barrels of 12 months.

Once finished, Ostatu Crianza does not undergo any stabilization or filtration process.

  • Aromas Very fruity aroma (black and red fruit in seasoning), with great freshness, appearing balsamic notes and memories of spices and some roasted, rounding its expression.
  • Palate The entrance in the mouth is juicy and its passage is firm, stylized and fresh, leaving us with the fruity and pleasant sensation of a balanced body where notes of blackberry, cherry, red and black plums and a touch of licorice appear.
  • Food pairing Recommended with red meats, stews, lamb, Spanish chorizo, hard and blue cheeses.
