Montebuena Crianza comes from old vineyards with an average age of 30 years, planted at an altitude between 450 and 550 meters, an intermediate level in terms of safe maturity. The vineyards extend for 80 hectares to the east of Labastida, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa best area.
The approach of the winery for this ageing does not follow typical commercial format steps creating easy to drink wines, but without complexity as it is common in most Rioja brands. Montebuena has deepened as in Reserva production, which is perceived in fruit complexity and spicy oak notes. After having the stems removed from the clusters, a pre-fermentative maceration was carried out for 120 hours to obtain a clearer fruit value and avoid oak most commonly impetuous action. It was 12-months ageing in both French (30%) and American oak (70%) that gave us the typical Rioja ageing image. The wine has a maroon cherry colour, and characterises by red fruits aromas, medium body, it is tasty, warm with light toasted notes.
- Colour Ruby tone at the centre with a dark deep colour and lively edge.
- Nose Cherry and blackberry jam. The wood, although noticeable, complements the openly fruity character of the wine, adding some cinnamon and toasted vanilla notes to the aroma’s finish.
- Palate Full with a potent impression, which supports the balance between good acidity and a velvety feel. On the finish, it shows a mix of dairy and marinated fruit. It shows body, good complexity, strength and richness of nuances in the mouth as well as good persistency.
- Food pairing Recommended with steaks and other red meats, casseroles, stews, lamb, Spanish chorizo sausages, hard and blue cheeses.
