Manuel Quintano was a historical character in XVIII century as the precursor of the modern Rioja we know. Solagüen wineries wanted to honour his memory with the firm “cum laude” wine: Manuel Quintano Reserva Especial. A red wine that comes from very old vineyards with average age of 55 years, located at an altitude between 500 and 600 meters in Labastida town, the heart of Rioja best area.
Made with 70% Tempranillo and 30%Garnacha. The grapes were macerated in cold for 72 hours immediately reaching the wine cellar. The fermentation was carried out at 28°C in cement tanks with a constant thermal control, with 16-day maceration with the skins and with free running off performed by gravity. Later, it underwent spontaneous 45-day malolactic fermentation in the reservoirs. This wine was aged for 30 months with stirring every 8-10 months in American oak barrels selected in Pennsylvania and Missouri. Finally, the wine was matured for other 24 months in the bottle.
The objective of this wine has been the complex and elegant expression of a long-stay barrelled reserva, introducing Garnacha, similar to the way reservas were created in the first half of the 20th century, before the intensive viticulture appeared.
The wine is characterized by an intense colour, with a spicy and smoky notes aroma, a black fruit background (blackberries, blueberries), a complex, rounded taste on the palate, spicy, with hints of jam in its aftertaste.

- Nose Aromas of macerated fruit, aromatic herbs, bread and figs.
- Palate Complex palate with flavours of ripe red fruits, raisins, tobacco and liquorice. Well balanced with smooth tannins from both the grape and the French oak. Shows excellent weight with a long and smooth finish.
- Food pairing Very versatile, it goes with many dishes including grilled vegetables, many types of meat dishes, stews and elaborate dishes. Ideal for chocolate-based desserts.
