Wine description

Lar de Paula Reserva is a red wine that comes from vineyards older than 20 years, located in Rioja Alavesa. Its soils are mainly limestone, capable of giving the wine more fineness and varietal expression. The vineyards are located in Rioja Alavesa centre, in El Villar de Álava, with a unique geographical situation, at a 600-metre altitude, protected in the north by the Sierra Cantabria but also with some influence of the Ebro river microclimate, with a good sunshine, which characterizes these Rioja lands.

A wine made with 100% Tempranillo, the best clusters of which were thoroughly selected. Later they had their stems removed and were squeezed to be poured into stainless steel tanks with natural fermentation process, which automatically releases carbon dioxide. This innovative method avoids oxidation and allows to better preserve the wine colour and its aromas. The wine was fermented for 12 days at a controlled temperature. Later, it was aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels. Finally, it underwent a 12-month ageing period in the bottle.

An essential condition for such long ageing has been an exquisite combination between the intentional intense ripening of selected grapes and oak characteristics, so as not to influence too much the wine fruity character. The result has been a potent wine, with very soft ripe tannins, full-bodied, rich in spicy oak (toasted creamy), tobacco and ripe black fruit (blackberry jam), with a nice and persistent aftertaste.
