For almost a century, Clos Montebuena Norte has been putting their extensive knowledge and experience into making quality wines. Inside the Castillo Labastida group, they continue this tradition, while also staying on top of the latest advances in vinification. Established in 1964 by a group of local wine growers, the cooperative has currently 152 members.
It’s one of the largest wine maker cellars in La Rioja to control their production from the vine to the bottle. Nestled between the Sierra de Cantabria mountains and the Ebro river, the climatic conditions of the winery’s surroundings are unique in Rioja.
- Colour A highly intense and deep core of dark cherry with a pinkish edge. Bright and clean.
- Nose Complex, with good intensity. Over a background of ripe fruit, one notices notes of cocoa, wild fruit (dark cherries), smoke and liquor. As it stays in the glass, mineral and balsamic notes begin to arise. The wood is well integrated and gives way to the unique characteristics of the wine after aeration, acquiring intensity but maintaining harmony with all of its aromas.
- Palate Full of flavour on the attack with a base of wild ripe berries as the principal sensation, similar to a mix of jam, candy and marinated plums. Light, velvety feel, with a liquorice finish.
- Food pairing Pairs well with poultry, red meats and lamb.
