Wine description

Baigorri B70 is one of Bodegas Baigorri most precious jewels. A Basque name from Basque Rioja, the one in Alava, protected by the Sierra Cantabria that imposes different vineyards identities by its different terraces. Old 70-year-old vineyards, distributed in small plots, with a production of less than 2000kg per hectare, progressive maturation of which provides absolute delicacy, allowed by fresher conditions of the first slopes that rise to the mountain range. The grapes are born on the stocks that, due to their old age, have created a real forest of underground roots, which explore subsoil mineral and organic richness. The winery is located in one of the most charismatic towns of Rioja Alavesa: Samaniego, the homeland of an immortal fabulist, Felix de Samaniego. Baigorri, having honour of being created in this stunning landscape of wine history, has had no choice but to apply sustainable crafts in harmony with Mother Nature.

Made with 100% Tempranillo, nothing can be better than using a single variety without having to complement it. The grapes were selected by hand, cluster by cluster, using vibration and weight selection tables. The elaboration was made with open separate 600-litre barrels. Later the first pressing wine was removed, making use only of the second pressing wine. This wine was aged in new French oak barrels for 22 months, the wine is characterized by such strength and vigour that it is able to age in wood for almost 2 years without wine losing its varietal and fruity expression.

It is a wine of maximum expression of proper Baigorri complexity, elegant, rounded and showing a great balance between the tannins provided by the wood and the grapes, with a very long and persistent aftertaste.

Notas de cata y Maridaje

  • Colour Picota cherry intense color.
  • Aromas Ripe fruit scent with mineral nuances.
  • Palate Round and very balanced between the tannins coming from the specially selected wood and those belonging to the grape. Very long and persistent after taste.
