Wine description

You have only one mother and we give her the best we can. Juan Luis Cañas dedicated the name of this winegrower to his mother, Angeles. What is more, Juan Luis wanted to materialize it in a wine that bears her name: Angeles de Amaren, a red wine from Rioja Alavesa, her land, coming from old vineyards with average age of 45 years, clayey and clayey-calcareous soil. The altitude of the vineyards is perfect, between 400 and 700 meters above sea level, and preferably located on terraces and slopes. All of them are situated in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa: Villabuena, Samaniego, Leza, Navaridas and Baños de Ebro.

The wine is made with 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano grape, which is selected from vineyards in small parcels. The assembly of an early grape, such as Tempranillo, and a late grape, such as Graciano, is perfect to receive the fruit from the first sort of grape with the herbal and spicy nerve of the second one. Both were made and grown in oak barrels separately. Both wines passed the malolactic fermentation in new barrels of French and American oak at 50% each. The process results in a balsamic wine from the Graciano, the ripe fruit and tannin from the Tempranillo and the creaminess of the oak, all very merged with a mineral ending.

Notas de cata y Maridaje

  • Colour Cherry red with high robe.
  • Aromas Highly intense aromas with a pronounced content of fruit over a delicate background of oak. Lactic nuances and spicy touches.
  • Palate Tasty and expressive with smooth, fresh tannins and balanced acidity. On the finish, it is long with reminiscences of red and black fruit. Fresh, lively and persistent.
  • Food pairing Mild curries, white meats in sauces, pasta with white and red sauces, grilled mushrooms, foie-gras, salmon.
